Dr Nigel Nesbit
After graduating from Massey University in 1978 I have worked predominantly in small animal practice ever since. Having worked briefly in Christchurch and Nelson before settling in Blenheim in 1984, I started the Springlands Veterinary Centre in 1988 with my wife Trish and we moved to our present premises in 1991.
I still, after all these years, enjoy all aspects of veterinary practice and can not imagine a career that could have given me more happiness. Consulting still gives me great pleasure and I have always taken pride in providing a common sense practical approach to veterinary medicine. I am now spending more of my time in the operating theatre performing surgery, with orthopaedics playing an ever increasing role.
Initially I worked 7 days a week and was on call 24/7 but I have been lucky in recent years to have been able to take more of a back seat and pass the baton onto a new wave of talented vets.
In my spare time I enjoy cycling and fishing, both in fresh and salt water but it is fair to say the fish are pretty safe, as I really just like the outdoors and am not too worried if I catch anything or not.
